TWO youth representatives left for Laos yesterday to take part in the ASEAN Leaders’ Interface with Representatives of ASEAN Youth.

Md Amirul Syazmie Ibrahim from the Youth and Sports Department at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and Siti Kailene Jazlan Kashfi from the Brunei Darussalam AIDS Council said that they were excited to represent the sultanate for the two-day meeting which is expected to start today.

“For myself to represent the department is a good exposure to meet other young leaders and speak of recent developments and when they will implement the work plan for 2016-2020. It will be a good way for us to discuss with youths from across ASEAN,” said Md Amirul.

“We hope that we can create a good network and come up with various programmes that would be held not only in Brunei but in other countries as well. It is the ASEAN vision to foster one community. For further development, we need to stand together to work towards that vision,” he added.

Meanwhile, Siti Kailene said that she hopes to see new opportunities that would enable her to help other youths in Brunei.

“As a youth I hope that everything I learn there, I can bring back. It would act as a platform to not only improve myself but as a peer educator I can help the younger youths as we are the current generation,” she said.

The ASEAN Leader’s Interface with Representatives of ASEAN Youth 2016 is an event that takes place during the 28th AND 29th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Laos.

The youths will be involved in the opening ceremony for the ASEAN Summit and will also call upon the leader of the Lao Youth Union.

The delegation is also expected to visit several historical places of interest.
