THE Laksamana College of Business (LCB) will be working with the Centre for British Teachers (CfBT) to improve its students’ English skills.

“I think English is the language of business, so improving our students’ English to (a professional) level is really important,” said Laksamana’s director and principal, Ian Pirie, during the signing ceremony for the Memorandum of Understanding yesterday between LCB and CfBT at the college.

The signing signifies CfBT’s partnership with Laksamana Business College to provide an international standard Academic English programme for all level 2 students and prepare them for their IELTS test.

The first course is scheduled to begin on September 2.

Ian said the programme will provide a strong language foundation for level 2 students in their pursuit of employment or higher education.

“I think it’s very important for our students. Especially those in BTEC Level 2 whose English needs a lot of work at higher level studies. (This partnership) is a very big opportunity for our students to improve their English, take the IELTS exam and access higher education,” he said.

The MoU was signed between Ian and Dr Greg Keaney, director of English Language Teaching and Country Manager for CfBT Education Services Brunei.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with Laksamana in this endeavour and bringing our expertise in teaching Business English to adults to the Bruneian business leaders of tomorrow,” said Robert Tunnell, manager of the Training and Learning Centre at CfBT.
