EIGHTY-EIGHT students from Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Institute (ITQSHHB) yesterday received awards for their outstanding achievement in last year’s examination.

The students were separated into six different categories: Overall best prize exams in Al-quran reading examination, best students with outstanding results in Al-Quran reading examination, outstanding result end-of-year examination, BGCE O-level, Outstanding Public Studies Award and Outstanding Al-Quran Braille Studies Award.

Present to hand over congratulatory plaques and certificates was Deputy Rector of Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College (KUPU SB) Dr Hj Adanan Hj Basar.

In his speech, Dr Hj Adanan urged the students to be proactive in spreading the religious studies among their families as well as members of the public.

“The knowledge that we obtained must be shared with families and others especially on the Al-Quran. It must be utilised accordingly for our sake as well as other people,” said the deputy rector.

The religious institute has produced many hafiz (a person who has memorised the entire Quran) for the past few years, he said, adding this will help the country to establish a religious society.

The institute’s acting principal, Pg Hj Haslin Pg Hj Ali, said Tahfiz students have shown remarkable achievement in GCE O-level exams last year in which more than 70 percent of the students got five O-level and above.

“Hopefully, with this award ceremony, it will encourage the students to improve their academic performance and produce good results in their future examination,” he said.

Yesterday’s event was also attended by Religious Affairs Permanent Secretary Dato Seri Setia Hj Abdul Aziz Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Hj Yussof.
