THE Islamic Religious Council (MUIB) distributed $2,600 in zakat money yesterday to recent victims of collapsed houses in Kg Setia B and Kg Burong Pingai Air.

During the ceremony held at Ministry of Religious Affairs yesterday, Acting Secretary of Brunei Islamic Religious Council Hj Abd Aziz Hj Akop was present to hand over the zakat aid to the victims.

The victims from Kg Setia B received a total of $1,400 in zakat funds yesterday. Their house collapsed on August 25, sometime in midnight.

Another $1,200 in zakat funds were given to a family of six whose house in Kg Burong Pingai Air collapsed in the afternoon of August 28.

The donation was collected through the Zakat Asnaf Fakir Miskin (Funds for the Poor and Needy) to help alleviate their burden.

In a statement, MUIB said they hoped the zakat distribution will help alleviate the plight of the victims. They added that they hoped the family heads will be more careful and aware of the safety of family members to avert any future disaster.
