A LOCAL man yesterday denied charges of threatening and chasing his sister-in-law with a kitchen knife.

“I did not do it,” said 37-year-old Roslani Hj Md Yusof during the proceedings at the Magistrates’ Court.

Roslani is facing charges of criminal intimidation which carry up to three years in prison and a fine.

He also faces an assault charge or criminal force, for which he could face up to a year in prison and a fine.

He was deemed fit to stand trial following a psychiatric evaluation last week at the Mental Health Unit of Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital.

The Deputy Public Prosecutor Vuina Song did not object to Roslani’s release on bail with the condition that it is set at $2,500 or the same amount in one local surety.

Other conditions imposed on Roslani include that he should no longer reside or approach the house in Kg Batang Perhentian Limau Manis where the alleged incident took place.

He was also told to live elsewhere and not to approach the victim stated in the charge and to report to the Limau Manis Police Station on a monthly basis.

Presiding Senior Magistrate Azrimah Abd Rahman, who granted the bail application, further reminded the defendant not to be arrested for suspicion of committing an offence while out on bail.

Otherwise, the bail will be revoked and he will be remanded at Jerudong Prison throughout the duration of the trial.

A further mention of the case is scheduled to be held on September 10 before an assigned magistrate to set the trial dates.
