TWELVE Muallaf (converts) completed a four-day Islamic guidance course extension yesterday at the Islamic Da’wah Centre (PDI), which taught them the basics of practicing the religion.

“They were taught things like the correct way of praying, reading Al-Quran and about Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh),” said an officer from the centre’s Islamic and Conversion Guidance Unit who declined to be named.

The officer said that in the beginning, converts are required to attend the guidance course, involving introduction to Islam. After completing the course, they continue with the extension courses, which include the four-day Islamic guidance course.

He said upon completing the introductory courses, the 12 converts from Temburong, Brunei-Muara and Tutong districts were contacted and invited to participate in the extension courses.

He said he hoped that every convert would continue to learn about Islam and not just right after they embraced it.

“I hope they will continue to take the guidance classes for converts and keep on learning,” he said.

The guest of honour was Ridzuan Wu, deputy president of the Regional Islamic Da’wah Council for Southeast Asia and the Pacific (RIESEAP), who presented certificates of completion to the converts.

Also present was the Acting Director of PDI, Abdul Aziz Hj Abdul Kahar, and other PDI officials.
