Paying tribute to young entrepreneurs

HIS Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, yesterday graced Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal (YSHHB) Bolkiah’s Raya celebrations, which paid tribute to young entrepreneurs who strive to boost the Brunei economy.

Accompanying His Majesty at the International Convention Centre were Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hjh Saleha, HRH Prince Hj Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, and HRH Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah.

In his capacity as chairman of YSHHB board of directors, Minister of Education Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Hj Suyoi Hj Osman said this year’s celebration focuses on young professionals and entrepreneurs, including graduates who took entrepreneurship courses.

The theme of Yayasan’s 13th Raya celebration also coincided with Brunei’s 32nd National Day theme of Visionary Generation.

The minister added that youth play an important role in achieving the goals of Vision 2035, adding that young professionals and entrepreneurs must build a strong identity and equip themselves with the right knowledge to make a positive contribution to the country.

“To carry out this big responsibility, youth must equip themselves with knowledge, skills to deal with challenges,” he said.

YB Pehin Dato Hj Suyoi said youth in Brunei have the potential to be the driving force of society and agents of change to achieve excellence and success in becoming effective leaders.

The celebrations then saw His Majesty touring the exhibition that featured young entrepreneurs’ products and services.

Several pesambah (gifts) were presented to the monarch as he was touring the booths.

Owner of Oudh Al Aswad, Adi Mardi Ajmain said his pesambah — custom-made Arabian perfumes were to show appreciation and gratitude to Their Majesties.

“There’s a story for every creation, so for His Majesty we wanted to make something luxurious and exotic, fit for a king that can portray his character. So we used the finest materials such as sandalwood and ambergris,” he said.

During the celebrations, His Majesty and other members of the royal family were treated to musical performances by Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah School pupils.
