A LOCAL woman escaped without serious injuries after her car smashed into roadside steel barriers and flipped over on Saturday night along the Telisai-Lumut highway.

The self-accident happened at 8.45pm under wet conditions.

Five steel barriers were damaged in the collision, which caused the car to lose control and flip over onto grass on the roadside.

Insurance staff at the site of the accident around 9.30pm pointed out that the car was found more than ten metres from where the steel barriers were hit.

Saturday's accident brings the total accidents on the new 18.6km highway to at least seven since opening on June 28.

Authorities have repeatedly urged motorists to adhere to the speed limit of 100km/hour during dry conditions and 70km/hour when wet to reduce the risk of accidents taking place.

The Royal Brunei Police Force are still investigating the exact cause of the accident.
