French Magazine _l’Essentiel des relations internationales _handed over a special Brunei-themed issue of their bi-monthly publication to the second minister of foreign affairs and trade yesterday.

During a handover at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Laurent Taieb, the CEO of Prestige Communication, presented a copy of the July/August issue to Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Dewa Dato Seri Setia Lim Jock Seng, who is also a minister at the PMO.

The magazine features exclusive interviews with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, as well as several cabinet ministers.

Taieb said the magazine chose to feature Brunei to heighten awareness of investment opportunities in the sultanate.

“The editorial focuses on geopolitics and international issues and on each issue, we turn the spotlight on a country in order to make political and economical leaders aware of the political, economical and social changes in that country,” he said during a press conference on Tuesday.

“We have now decided to devote a more prominent place to Asia, and Brunei was chosen to be the first ASEAN nation in the limelight (of the magazine) so our latest issue is devoted to the sultanate with a view to making the country better known among French and French-speaking investors.”

Taieb said the comprehensive survey of Brunei would represent something of a first in France, and aimed to underline His Majesty’s governance policies that has made Brunei a peaceful, stable and outward-looking state.

“Furthermore, we wanted to highlight the strength of Brunei’s economy, assets and its economic diversification policy that has been undertaken which is included in the magazine’s reports.”

l’Essentiel des relations internationales was launched in 2004 and currently has a print circulation of 90,000 copies worldwide, mainly in French-speaking countries. – additional reporting by Darren Chin
