THE Brunei-Muara District Office and the Arts and Culture Section of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) will co-organise cultural and religious performances from July 15-31.

The activity, which is part of the district’s calendar of events for this year, will be held to enliven celebrations for His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 70th birthday.

Awang Rosdin Hj Abdul Aziz, special duties officer grade II and head of the Mukim and Village Institution Section under Brunei-Muara District, said the preparations have been completed, including the stage for the performances.

He said the event will take place in the parking area in front of the Royal Regalia in the capital from 8.00pm to 10.30pm.

“The Brunei-Muara District Office calls on the people — not only those residing in Brunei-Muara, but also other districts — to come and enjoy all the evening performances,” he said.

He said the event would also feature several contests such as sketching, gulingtangan, traditional dancing and bemukun (a traditional form of entertainment) while a religious forum will also be on the agenda.

The event will see the participation of government agencies, the private sector, associations, students and foreign nationals residing in the country.

Scheduled performers include Asterawani (Brunei Darussalam Association of Writers), Village and Mukim Consultative Councils, the Islamic Da’wah Centre (PDI), the Brunei Youth Council (MBB) and the Association of Singers, Musicians and Dancers. A cultural night featuring arts and cultural performances from foreign communities will also be presented.

In addition, there will be festive stalls selling retail items such as food and beverages, said Awang Rosdin. The stalls are organised by the Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Board.
