THE joy of Raya celebration continued to spread among Muslims in the sultanate, including new converts to Islam as the Islamic Da’wah Centre (PDI) led a delegation of muallaf (Muslim converts) to visit VIPs’ homes yesterday.

About 90 converts from Kg Bebuloh visited Minister of Religious Affairs Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Hj Awang Badaruddin Pengarah Dato Paduka Hj Awang Othman at his residence in Kg Sungai Besar, Mukim Kota Batu.

Led by the PDI’s director Ustazah Hjh Siti Azizah Hj Musa, the delegation was given a warm welcome by the minister and his family along with a mouth-watering line of food.

One of the converts, Mohd Nur Zaqwan Syukri Abdullah Punchak, told The Brunei Times that he was grateful for the opportunity to meet and know the religious affairs minister during this festive season.

“This is a great opportunity for me because not only I got to spend Raya with my new family, this visit will also strengthen the bond between converts like myself, with officers and personnel from PDI and the ministry who have helped us so much and guided us in this new chapter of life,” said the 27-year-old.

Converted in last December along with his two other sisters, Mohd Zaqwan also expressed his gratitude towards his Dusun family members who despite having different religious beliefs are fully-supportive of him.

“My parents and two out of my seven siblings are still non-Muslims but they never failed to encourage us in being good Muslims and fulfilling our Islamic duties and obligations,” he said.

The ministry’s deputy minister and deputy permanent secretary yesterday also hosted Muslims converts from Belait and Temburong districts respectively at their residences.

Dato Paduka Hj Abdul Mokti Hj Mohd Daud welcomed 90 delegates from the Belait district at his home in Kg Sg Hanching, Jalan Muara with the delegation headed by Acting Assistant Director of the PDI Ustaz Hj Abd Aziz Hj Abd Kahar.

Meanwhile, a total of 60 converts from Temburong, led by Abdullah Namit, Temburong’s religious head officer went to visit Deputy Permanent Secretary for Administration and Finance, Roselan Hj Taja’ah at his house in Kg Kilanas.

The delegations from PDI also went to visit Istana Nurul Iman in the morning to pay tribute to His Majesty and other royal family members prior to visiting the ministry’s VIP’s houses in the afternoon.

The annual gathering and visits by PDI through Da’wah and Muallaf Development Sections, among others aim to strengthen relationships between PDI’s officers and converts in the Sultanate, as well as among the converts themselves.
