Singapore minister visits State Mufti’s residence

SINGAPORE’S Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Defence continued his four-day visit to the sultanate yesterday with a Hari Raya visit to the State Mufti’s residence.

Dr Mohamad Maliki Osman is in the sultanate along with other delegates to personally convey the Hari Raya wishes of Singapore’s leaders to Brunei’s monarch and royal family.

State Mufti Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Hj Awg Abd Aziz Juned welcomed them yesterday to his home in Kampung Mulaut, where he shared light moments with them as they conversed over traditional local delicacies.

During the visit, Dr Mohamad Maliki spoke about initiatives carried out in Singapore as part of the nation’s approach of ‘going green’ and highlighted the growing importance of the eco-friendly community.

He said several parks in Singapore now have plastic bag stations to encourage dog owners to pick up after their pets.

Accompanying Dr Mohamad Maliki was his spouse, Sadiah Shahal, as well as Parliamentary Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth Baey Yam Keng and his spouse and the Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Amrin Amin.

Among the well-wishers was the High Commissioner of Singapore to Brunei, Lim Hong Huai, who is celebrating Hari Raya in the sultanate for the first time.

Other cabinet ministers including the Minister of Religious Affairs, Minister of Communications, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports and Minister of Education also joined in the festivities, welcoming Dr Mohamad Maliki at their homes during the first three days of Aidil Fitri. The delegates are scheduled to return to Singapore today.
