UTB student joins model ASEM in Mongolia

A UNIVERSITI Teknologi Brunei UTB) student flew off to Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia yesterday to take part in the Model Asia-Europe (ASEM) Summit, which will run from July 6-10.

Representing Brunei, Nurhazirah Johari will join 150 participants hailing from 51 ASEM countries to take part in the youth conference as well as attend plenary sessions and practical trainings.

Nurhazirah is a mechanical engineering student at UTB and also a member of the university’s Student Representative Council.

In a statement issued by the university yesterday, the activities will be divided into three phases with the first being an online pre-event phase.

“The second phase of the programme will be the conference, where participants will develop the chair’s statement of the Seventh Model ASEM,” UTB said.

The third and final phases will see four participants presenting the chair’s statement of the model summit to ASEM leaders and officials attending the 11th ASEM Summit.

“A number of participating students will also have the chance to meet their heads of states on the sidelines of ASEM11,” UTB added.

Nurhazirah has previously participated in conferences and debate championships such as the Borneo British Parliamentary Championship in Malaysia, the Borneo Global Issues Conference in 2009, and the ASEAN-ROK Frontier Forum in 2014 in Seoul, Korea.
