Education minister hands out donations

THE Pakistan High Commission held a donation and iftar ceremony for 200 orphans and their guardians at the Dewan Muhibbah in Berakas yesterday.

Present as guest of honour to give out donations was the Minister of Education, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Hj Suyoi Hj Osman.

In a press release, the high commission said the monetary donations were from Pakistani textile businessmen in the sultanate such as Firoz Jaya, Al-bukhari and Afridi Jaya. The Pakistan Acting High Commissioner said in an interview that the event was to emulate the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad SAW by giving to the needy especially to orphans.

“Allah SWT directed the Muslims to take care of the orphans, and he, Rasulullah SAW said: the best among you is one who cares for the orphans.

“The Prophet said the person who takes care of orphans will enter paradise with me. This is the importance especially in the month of Ramadhan; the month of compassion and the month of showing care” he said.

Also present was Acting Brunei-Muara District Officer, Mislee Hj Abdul Karim and members of the Pakistani Community in the country.
