TEN orphans received cash donations yesterday from the Kg Beribi Mosque Ta’mir Committee during the mosque’s Khatam Al-Quran ceremony.

During the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Finance Dato Paduka Hj Hisham Hj Mohd Hanifah was present to hand over the cash donations and a voucher for a carton of drinks to each recipient.

According to the mosque committee, the donations are aimed at assisting the orphans financially while showing care for those in need. The committee also hopes the donations will help improve their quality of life.

The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah followed by a reading of Khatam Al-Quran and tahlil.

It was followed by the handover of donations and a special lecture by Hj Ali Yusri Abdul Ghafor, the assistant director of the counselling section at the Ministry of Education.

He told The Brunei Times on the sidelines of the ceremony that the talk was aimed at encouraging all Muslims to continue to perform good deeds and pray.

He said continuing to perform good deeds and continuing to pray after the month of Ramadhan is a good change for Muslims.

Hj Yusri encouraged all Muslims to use the lessons they’ve learnt throughout the month and apply them in their daily lives. These include patience, self-control, time management and giving others love and care.

“If all of these (lessons) we learnt are applied even after Ramadhan, that means we’ve become people with positive changes,” he said.

The event concluded with a thanksgiving prayer, sungkai and mass Maghrib prayer.
