Moonsighting for first day of Syawal to be conducted on Tuesday

THE sighting of the new moon to determine the first day of Syawal and Hari Raya Aidil Fitri celebrations will take place on Tuesday July 5, 2016.

This was announced on RTB News last night in the run-up to the end of the month of Ramadhan.

According to the RTB News website, the new moon sighting will take place in several locations in three districts across the country including at the DST Headquarters in Tungku and Bukit Agok at Kg Jerudong in the Brunei-Muara district. Bukit Ambok will serve as the new moon sighting location in the Tutong district while sightings in Belait will take place on Bukit Lumut.

The new moon sighting delegation will comprise of officials from the Shari’ah Courts, the State Legal Department, the Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Survey Department, the Ministry of Development and the State Mufti Department.

The public are also advised to keep clear of the moon sighting locations so as not to obstruct the work that is to be done by officials.
