FORTY-SIX orphans comprising family members of civil servants working under the Ministry of Communications and its departments yesterday received monetary donations in a ceremony held at the ministry’s building.

Presenting the donations was Minister of Communications Yang Berhormat Dato Paduka Hj Mustappa Hj Sirat.

The minister told The Brunei Times that the donation was one of the ministry’s initiatives to further intensify religious deeds during this blessed month.

“The donation money was collected among government officials under the ministry during Ramadhan as an encouragement for us to increase our alms-giving in this fasting month and as a reminder for us to give assistance to those who are less fortunate,” he said.

Also attending the event was Permanent Secretary Hj Azhar Hj Ahmad, along with other senior officials and personnel from the ministry.

The ceremony began with a recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah followed by a mass reading of Surah Yasin and _tahlil _led by Muhammad Syafie Firdaus Tasad.
