Brunei, Thailand vow to enhance ties

THE deputy minister of defence yesterday received an introductory call from the ambassador of Thailand to Brunei, with both vowing to further enhance the defence ties of the two countries.

First Admiral (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz Hj Mohd Tamit met with Biravij Suwanpradhes at the Bolkiah Garrison, where they expressed satisfaction over bilateral relations between Brunei and Thailand, particularly in defence. Both sides also looked forward to further strengthening defence cooperation through exchange visits, joint training and courses as well as interaction between personnel.

The deputy minister said he hoped the armed forces of the two countries will continue to work closely together at all levels.

He praised Thailand’s backing of Brunei’s initiatives under the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) and ADMM Plus. According to the Ministry of Defence (MinDef), First Admiral (Rtd) Dato Abdul Aziz also reciprocated his support for Thailand’s initiatives under the regional bloc’s defence frameworks.
