Kurnia recipients grateful for His Majesty’s generosity

THE impact of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s Kurnia Peribadi (personal gifts) goes beyond the intended recipients as their family members also expressed gratitude to the monarch for elevating the financial burden of their loved ones.
Yesterday a grandmother shed tears when her granddaughter received the Kurnia Peribadi (personal gift) from His Majesty’s personal representatives at Istana Nurul Iman.
Hjh Hasnah’s granddaughter was one of the 17,284 individuals selected to receive the monarch’s Kurnia Peribadi (personal gifts) nationwide in conjunction with the upcoming Hari Raya Aidil Fitri celebration.
The granddaughter is eligible for the gift as she is an orphan.
The personal gifts were given to members of selected groups which comprised recipients of the Department of Community Development (JAPEM) assistance programme, orphans, individuals with special needs and zakat (tithe) recipients registered under the Islamic Religious Council.
Hjh Hasnah Mohammad accompanied her daughter-in-law and granddaughter to Istana Nurul Iman yesterday. She could not hold back her tears as she opened up to The Brunei Times about her family’s situation.
Hjh Hasnah knew how difficult it is for a single mother to raise a child on her own.
“I lost my son two years ago. He was my seventh out of nine children. My daughter-in-law and granddaughter lost their husband and father. Alhamdulillah, thank you to His Majesty this is indeed a rezeki (bounty) for my granddaughter,” the Perpindahan Lambak Kanan resident said.
Hjh Hasnah said that her daughter-in-law, Siti Nur Syaimaa Abdullah is unemployed. Siti Nur Syaimaa and her daughter are living with Hjh Hasnah.
Hjh Hasnah said, “I am thankful for the gift because there are many expenses and the cost of raising a child is expensive nowadays.”
Siti Nur Syaimaa, who tried her best to contain her emotion, said her daughter Siti Nur Fateem will turn five years old this August.
In Temburong district, a total of 765 individuals benefitted from the personal gifts.
One of the recipients, Khairul Ziadi Abdul Wahab said the gift will allow him to better provide for his children. “I do work, but my monthly salary is not enough for my family. I have four children and my salary of $600 is certainly not enough.” He added, “I will use this cash gift for my family, for their spending because for parents, we try our best to make everything possible for our children.”
Another recipient, Salamah Hj Kamis will use the cash gift for her two children’s education and basic necessities.
“Alhamdulillah, I am very grateful for His Majesty’s gift for his people. This assistance will be used for my children’s needs because they don’t have an income yet,” said the 56-year-old underprivileged recipient.
Her eldest child is currently undertaking a Master’s degree, while the youngest is studying in Year 11 at Sultan Hassan Secondary School.
For 17-year-old Md Helmin Yahya, who received the gift under the orphan category, he will be using the cash gift for the upcoming Raya and for his school items.
