$4,000 fine for using, possessing syabu

A LOCAL man was fined $4,000 after he pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine and consuming the drug.

Emran Yusof was detained by Narcotic Control Bureau (NCB) officers on March 4, 2014 when the personnel went to a convenience store in Kg Lambak Kanan due to suspicious drug-related activities.

During the arrest, Emran handed over several packets containing crystalline substances to the NCB officers.

It was following an analysis on the packets revealed that the crystalline substances contained 1.4788 grammes of methamphetamine or locally known as syabu. A drug test on Emran further found the defendant to have consumed syabu. Emran admitted during investigation that he had consumed the Class A drug in the afternoon before his arrest.

The Magistrates’ Court yesterday ordered Emran to pay the fine by August 31 or serve the in-default sentence of four months in jail if he fails to pay the fine by then.
