Essays must be written in the Malay language, although abstracts can be submitted in either English or Malay.

The closing date for essay submissions is January 31 next year at 4pm, Hjh Sariani said.

This year’s Language Month celebration will kick off at the DBP building at the Old Airport this Saturday at 12.30pm.

The event, which is expected to be launched by Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Hj Awg Halbi Hj Mohd Yusof, will see prize presentations to 70 students who had high academic achievements in the Malay Language and Malay Literature subjects in public examinations last year. The DBP will also present pledges to prioritise the use of Malay, the national language, to 15 schools during the event.

According to Hjh Sariani, this year’s Language Month celebration will be extended to the other districts on designated dates.

The Tutong district will be celebrating Language Month on August 13, while the Temburong and Belait districts will be having their celebrations on September 3 and 10 respectively.
