Warning over use of currency images on Raya packets

AUTORITI Monetari Brunei Darussalam (AMBD) yesterday warned against producing and distributing Hari Raya envelopes bearing images of national currency notes.
The authority, in a press statement issued yesterday, said it had found currency-imprinted Hari Raya envelopes circulating through text messages.
AMBD said in accordance with Section 21(1) of the Currency Order 2004, it is an offence to manufacture, sell, circulate or distribute any merchandise or produce containing any design or part of any Brunei Darussalam currency note or coin, in any size, scale or colour, or to use the same in any advertisement except with the permission of AMBD.
Any persons found committing such offence is liable on conviction to a fine, imprisonment for a term not exceeding 15 years or both, said the authority.
