SWIFT response from the Sungai Liang Fire Station saved the life of a foreign driver who was trapped in the driver’s seat after his heavy duty crane was overturned, hitting the top of another heavy vehicle with a container, around the vicinity of Tunggulian in Kg Sg Liang yesterday.

Commander of the Sungai Liang Fire Station Muhd Ali Hassan told The Brunei Times that upon receiving a distress call at 8.55am, two fire engines were dispatched to deal with the incidents.

Upon arrival, the firefighters first attempted to overturn the crane back to give an opening for the trapped driver to get out of the vehicle, but effort was to no avail.

The station commander, who was also at the scene then ordered the firefighters to climb the container and pull the driver out.

Three minutes into the operation, Muhd Ali said the firefighters managed to free the driver from his trapped position, and was handed over to the paramedics.

The driver was then brought to the Suri Seri Begawan Hospital in Kuala Belait, but was later referred to the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital in the capital for further checkup.
