Woman fined $3,000for possession of unlicensed satellite dishes

A WOMAN was imposed a $3,000 fine yesterday for possession of unlicensed satellite dishes.

Nur Saferiah Sabtu, 29, was found in possession of 24 units of Astro sets when customs officers at the Kuala Lurah Control Post conducted a routine inspection on her car on April 26, this year.

The units, which consist of multiple receivers, installation tools and satellite dishes, were found at the foot rest of the front and rear passenger seat while some were found inside the rear boot of the Hyundai Gran i10 that she was driving.

During the investigation, Nur Saferiah admitted that the sets belonged to her as she had bought it from Limbang.

She further knew that being in possession or importing the broadcasting apparatus without a license is in contravention of Customs Regulation and Broadcasting Act.

The custom duty to be paid for the Broadcasting apparatus is $36.
