THE traditional delicacies made by the women’s association under the Sengkurong ‘B’ Village Consultative Council (MPK) have been well received, said a community leader on Friday.

Hj Musa Hj Tahir @ Hj Siti, penghulu and acting village head of Kg Sengkurong ‘B’, said that they have received overwhelming orders for these traditional delicacies, especially during Ramadhan and in the buildup to the upcoming Hari Raya celebrations.

Popular products include kelupis bejalin, dalamu, penyaram, and bubur si bujang.

These local products were officially introduced at the One Village, One Product (OVOP) Expo at a shopping complex in Berakas last May.

The event was held to provide a platform for marketable village products which can help MPKs in the Brunei-Muara district generate income and increase economic growth in the villages.

Alhamdulillah, I heard from the members of women’s association (that) many orders have been placed by the public,” said Hj Musa.

This, he said, not only promotes the village products from Kg Sengkurong ‘B’ but also benefits the villagers by providing them with extra income.

Hjh Zariah Nayan, assistant secretary of the women’s association of the MPK, said that she received many orders not only from residents of Kg Sengkurong ‘B’ but also from customers from outside the village.

For the upcoming Hari Raya, she already has orders for a total of 1,000 pieces of kelupis bejalin, a traditional rice cake made of glutinous rice, coconut milk, salt and pandan leaves.

A pack of kelupis bejalin comprising 10 pieces is priced at $2.
