THIRTY students from Rimba II Secondary School recently underwent a three-day internship programme to have a taste of the workplace.

Organised by Global Shapers Bandar Seri Begawan Hub, the programme also saw the involvement of 15 organisations from various sectors including food and beverage, hospitality, beauty and fitness, as well as finance.

Prior to the internship, students were provided an insight into the industries they would be working in, the required skills to succeed and employer’s expectations via a counselling session.

“Our shapers, made up of young people below 30 years old, have found through experience that exposure to a part-time job prior to university provides significant influence in choosing the right career path,” Founding Curator of Global Shapers Hub BSB Shaun Hoon was quoted as saying in a press release.

Global Shapers is an initiative by the World Economic Forum to empower young people to produce a positive impact on their societies.

Hoon further said the International Labour Organisation (ILO) has found that students who did a part-time job while at school fared better in the post-school labour market.

“As such, we are embarking on this project to open up this opportunity for youth between the ages of 14-15 to be exposed to part-time job opportunities to help them find the right career,” he added.
