Ministries continue religious events

Several ministries concluded their tadarus ceremonies yesterday but continued to carry out religious deeds to commemorate the blessed month of Ramadhan.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs, during a Khatam Al-Quran ceremony yesterday, distributed a total of $73,400 from zakat funds to 30 families categorized as fakir miskin.

Minister of Religious Affairs Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awg Badaruddin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awg Othman presented the donations to heads of each family at Masjid Setia Ali in Muara.

Similarly, a total of 180 recipients – comprising 60 Welfare Home Complex’s residents and 120 students from Pusat Bahagia – received monetary assistance in a breaking-fast ceremony at Dewan Muhibah yesterday.

Present to handover the donations was Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Hj Awg Halbi Hj Mohd Yusof.

The Ministry of Development, meanwhile, delivered _wakaf _during a Khatam Al-Quran ceremony at Masjid Duli Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, Kg Tamoi.

Yang Berhormat Dato Paduka Hj Bahrin Abdullah, minister of development, handed endowment in the form of one water jet and one leaf blower for the mosque’s usage to imam of the mosque, Faizal Rosli.

Minister of Education Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Hj Suyoi Hj Osman hosted the ministry’s Khatam Al-Quran and breaking fast ceremony at his residence yesterday.

The event was joined by a delegation of 30 students from Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali, as well as the institution’s rector Dr Hj Norarfan Hj Zainal.

At a similar event held on Friday, the Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah Fund for Orphans (DANA) received a total of $130,000 from Perbadanan Tabung Amanah Islam Brunei (TAIB) and its subsidiaries.

Held at the Kampung Lumapas Mosque, DANA received $100,000 from TAIB, $20,000 from Insurans Islam TAIB Sdn Bhd and $10,000 from Darussalam Holdings Sdn Bhd after the Khatam Al-Quran ceremony organised by TAIB culminated.

Handing the mock cheque to Chief Executive Officer of DANA Hj Brahim Hj Ismail was the minister of Culture, Youth and Sports in his capacity as Chairman of Perbadanan TAIB’s Board of Directors.
