A MAN who stole a bicycle to exchange for drugs is scheduled to be sentenced next week.

The court document filed by prosecuting officer Wajeehah DP Hj Abdul Wahab stated that Adyleo Wahyudi Hj A Karim, 37, was dragging a locked bicycle when the police on patrol spotted him on June 23, this year.

During investigations, Adyleo admitted to the theft of the bicycle from a house in Jalan Manggis.

He had intended to exchange the bicycle for drugs. However, as he was dragging the bicycle to his friend’s house in Kg Pulaie, he was stopped by the police who were patrolling the area.

The bicycle, which is worth $900, has been identified by its owner. On record, Adyleo has a previous conviction under the misuse of drugs act.

In his mitigation yesterday, Adyleo sought for leniency from the courts on sentencing as he has two children under his care with no one else looking after them.

While the court document stated that he is unemployed, Adyleo told the court that he works part-time selling grilled BBQ chicken at the National Stadium.

He further told the court that he stole the bicycle to buy drugs which he intends to sell back.

Adyleo, who is recently divorced, said that he would use the proceeds from the drug sale to support his two young children.

Adyleo was released on a $3,000 court bail or one local surety despite prosecution’s objection yesterday. The sentence is set for June 28.
