Man charged with duping released on bail

A MAN was released on bail yesterday to allow him time to consider his plea on a charge of duping a man into giving him a $25,000 watch.

Noer Sjopyan Othman, 34, is accused of falsely representing that his wife was interested in purchasing a Chopard watch on October 4, 2011, and inducing the complainant, Zainuddin Dato Hj Marsal, into handing the watch over to him.

The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to seven years and an unspecified amount in fine.

During the proceedings before chief magistrate Muhammed Faisal PDJLD DSP Hj Kefli, Noer Sjopyan told the court that he was not ready to enter his plea yet.

The case is adjourned to July 13, to allow the defendant to consider his plea before the presiding magistrate Hjh Ervy Sufitriana Hj Abd Rahman.

The defendant was released on a $2,000 court bail or the same amount in one local surety.

He was ordered not to contact the complainant in the charge and to report to the Sengkurong Police Station every two weeks. He was also ordered not to commit any offences while out on bail.
