Invitation to donate
THE Masjid Kg Pandan National Housing Scheme’s youth committee is calling on the public to contribute food items to be donated to underprivileged people in Belait, as part of their Ramadhan charity project.
A member of the youth committee, Hj Amirul Al-Hazid Jasni, said donors can give rice, biscuits, canned drinks and cooking oil to the committee at Masjid RPN Kg Pandan from June 27 to 28 at 2pm until 5pm.
All of the items will then be distributed to recipients listed by the Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB) before the start of Hari Raya celebrations.
Apart from alleviating the burden of needy people in Belait, Hj Amirul Al-Hazid said the charity project would serve as an avenue for the mosque’s youth committee to engage more with the community.
By reaching out to the underprivileged, he said youth will also have the chance to better understand community issues.
The charity drive is the first to be held by the youth of Masjid RPN Kg Pandan, following in the footsteps of Masjid As-Shaliheen’s youth who also held a similar project recently.
Hj Amirul Al-Hazid said his youth committee was motivated to carry out projects and be more active in reaching out to communities and highlighting the presence and roles of youths at mosques.
“This is also to overcome the stereotype that most of those who participate in mosque activities are middle-aged and elderly people... and to show that there are also youth who help make the mosque a livelier place through beneficial activities,” he said.
He added that the youth committee previously held a similar charity project in 2012.
Hj Amirul Al-Hazid hoped the charity project can be improved as time progresses, as they will be doing it annually starting this year.
