THE Ministry of Education (MoE) yesterday marked Nuzul Al-Quran with a religious forum that preached the benefits of reading the Quran.

The forum highlighted the Quran as a source of medicine and knowledge, saying that the holy book can treat ‘ill-hearted’ individuals who are always filled with negative emotions.

Ustaz Hj Sammali Hj Adam, Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali’s head of Public Relations, said a lot of benefits can be gained by Al-Quran, not just by reading it but by understanding the verses.

“Reading Al-Quran during Ramadhan particularly will gain rewards from Allah SWT, illnesses of soul such as jealousy, anger and resentment cannot be cured by doctors, only Allah SWT can help and this can be done by doing acts of worship.

“Jealousy is one of the fatal illnesses of ethics which cannot be cured. A jealous person grieves upon any goodness and positivity in other people’s lives, and even desires them to lose, and this is unhealthy,” he continued.

Ustaz Hj Sammali also reminded people not to overeat during the fasting month, as overeating could increase the likelihood of weight gain that can further lead to obesity.

“We must watch our food intake and it should not differ too much from your usual meal,” he added.

Ustaz Hj Mohd Khairul Nazif Hj Damit, assistant lecturer at UNISSA’s Usuluddin Faculty, said Muslims should take their own initiative to learn the Quran so that they can receive rewards from Allah SWT.

“Some verses in the Quran can also be used as a reference and guide to educate us in the teachings of Islam, Allah SWT and the prophets. A person is not educated if he does not know how to recite the Quran,” he said.

Present as guest of honour at the forum was Minister of Education Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Hj Suyoi Hj Osman.

Organised by the ministry’s Department of Examination, the forum at Sengkurong Sixth Form Centre was held to glorify the teachings of Allah SWT.

The ministry said the Nuzul Al-Quran event is an important miracle because it was a revelation of Quranic verses from Allah SWT given to Prophet Muhammad (SAW) that would eventually become a book of guidance for every Muslim.
