SOAS College hosts Khatam ceremony to mark completion of Quran recital

THE Sultan Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien College (SOASC) yesterday held a Khatam Al-Quran to commemorate Nuzul Al-Quran and to glorify the blessed month of Ramadhan.

A total of 400 Year 7 and 8 students witnessed the Khatam that took place in the college’s auditorium.

Year 10 Advance ‘A’ and ‘B’ students performed the Khatam, which usually marks the complete reading of the Quran’s 30 juz.

Present as the guest of honour was the former principal of SOAC, Hj Roslan Hj Hassan and spouse.

The ceremony began with a mass recital of the Surah Al-Fatihah that was led by the former principal. It was then followed by the readings of Surah Al-Dhuha until Surah Al-Masad and the reading of takhtim by the students.

The Khatam ended with a _doa _Khatam Al-Quran led by a student representative and a dikir marhaban.

The participating students were then presented with certificates signifying the completion of their Khatam.

Following the event, representatives from the SOASC Alumni Class of 1964, presented monetary donations for 10 orphans from Year 7 and 8 who are attending the college.

The donations were a collective effort by the alumni, the chairperson of the college’s parent-teacher association and the college itself.

According to a statement from SOASC, the event was held to glorify the month of Ramadhan while celebrating Nuzul Al-Quran, which celebrates the revelation of the Quran that took place in the fasting month of Ramadhan.

It was also held to foster better ties in the college.
