Ministries continue religious events

SEVERAL Ministries held religious events yesterday to continue enlivening the month of Ramadhan and to take advantage of reaping great rewards during the blessed month.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) held a Tadarus and Khatam Al-Quran closing ceremony at the Kampung Belimbing Mosque in Kota Batu yesterday.

Leading the ceremony was Minister of Home Affairs Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Hj Awg Abu Bakar Hj Apong.

Before the start of the ceremony, the minister presented donations to eight orphans from Kampung Belimbing. This was followed by the Khatam Al-Quran and mass recital of tahtim, tahlil and doa selamat led by the imam of the mosque, said a press release issued by the ministry.

The religious event is held annually to strengthen ties between the ministry and residents of Brunei-Muara.

Also present was MoHA Permanent Secretary Hj Md ‘Abdoh Dato Seri Setia Hj Abd Salam, Acting Brunei-Muara District Officer Misle Hj Abd Karim, Legislative Council member and Village Head of Kg Belimbing YB Hj Gapor @ Hj Mohd Daud Karim, along with other government officials.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs also held a tadarus event at the Masjid Utama Muhammad Salleh in Temburong yesterday.

Present as the guest of honour was Deputy Permanent Secretary of Religious Affairs Hj Harun Hj Junid.

Also present at the event were the Mukim Consultative Council, Village Consultative Council, as well as the mosque takmir committee.

The event commenced with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by the deputy permanent secretary followed by the mass Tadarus recitation.

Mosque Affairs Officer Hj Kamarul Zaman Hj Kamis then read a brief translation of an excerpt from the Al-Quran where it warned people who consume another’s wealth unjustly.

The ceremony concluded with monetary zakat donations presented by Acting Deputy Mufti of the State Mufti’s Office Dr Hj Mazanan Hj Mohd Yussof to recipients who fell under asnaf fakir miskin (poor and destitute) for their upcoming Raya.

The Ministry of Education (MoE) also held a tadarus event at the Universiti Brunei Darussalam Mosque yesterday.

Present as the guest of honour was the Minister of Education Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Haji Suyoi Hj Osman.

Among those in attendance were Deputy Minister of Education Pengiran Dato Paduka Hj Bahrom Pg Hj Bahar, Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) Dr Hj Junaidi Hj Abdul Rahman and Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) Rector Dr Hj Norarfan Hj Zainal.
