THE Village Consultative Council (MPK) of Pekan Kuala Belait was recently handed over a double-storey house to serve as its activity centre, expected to help the village improve its economic and community activities, Acting Village Head of Pekan Kuala Belait.

According to Hj Pungut Ali, who is also Penghulu of Mukim Kuala Belait, the new activity centre was provided to them by the Belait District Office in April.

The two-storey is located on Jalan Pemancha, and is twice the size of its previous activity centre which has been deemed unsafe for use due to damages.

“The old building can only house around 30 people, the new one can accommodate around 60 people. So we can hold more activities including ceremonies and regular Al-Quran recital classes,” he said.

The new activity centre will also be a place for the MPK’s economic bureau and the women’s section to conduct regular activities said Hj Pungut.

“This includes cooking traditional desserts and handicraft weaving to be showcased and sold to visitors.”

In the past, Hj Pungut said the activity centre usually welcomes working visits from retired civil servants or international delegations as a means to help the MPK promote its products.

“At the moment we are still in the process of moving in... we are expecting to fully move in by the end of Hari Raya,” he said.
