THE Pertiwi association donated a total of $5,255 yesterday to Belait’s Orphanage Fund and the Belait District Office’s Welfare Fund.

The chairperson of Pertiwi Belait, Fatimah Tanji, handed over the donations to Belait District Officer Hj Haris Othman which were obtained through charity sales last Ramadhan.

A total of $3,000 was donated for orphans while another $2,255 will be kept for the District Office’s Welfare Fund, which in the past has been used for construction supplies to upgrade homes occupied by low-income families.

“This year, we were able to contribute almost $2,000 more, as sales from last year’s charity sale were much higher,” she said.

Ten per cent of the funds generated from Pertiwi’s charity sale, which has been held annually for the past 30 years at the Seria District Office building, are allocated for charitable causes.

Fatimah said their sale will begin this Sunday at 10am at the same location and run until the final day of fasting.

The Belait District Office in a statement expressed its gratitude to Pertiwi for their donations and encouraged all those willing to donate to either fund to visit the Belait District Office during working hours.
