THE Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) yesterday donated basic necessities to several underprivileged families in Tutong in the spirit of Ramadhan.

MCYS Minister Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Hj Awg Halbi Hj Mohd Yusof led a delegation to a number of villages across the district, where they handed over food and drinks to four households.

One of the recipients, who couldn’t be named by MCYS for privacy reasons, said she was grateful to Allah SWT and the government for the aid.

The 70-year-old single mother said the donations will help alleviate her financial burden. She currently lives in a rented house in Kg Bukit Beruang with two of her children afflicted with an intellectual disability and thalassaemia.

“We depend on my old age pension of $250 a month to make ends meet, but the majority of that income goes to rent alone. So we are very thankful for this donation.”

YB Pehin Dato Hj Awg Halbi later presented donations to two underprivileged families in Kg Long Mayan and another recipient in Kg Kebia.

Also present during the visits was MCYS Permanent Secretary Datin Paduka Dr Hjh Norlila Dato Paduka Hj Abdul Jalil.
