$20k in zakat money for ‘fakir miskin’ families

TWENTY families categorised as _fakir miskin _families from Tutong received a total of $20,000 in zakat during a _tadarus _ceremony held at the district’s Kampung Danau Mosque yesterday.

Present to hand over the donations was Minister of Religious Affairs Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awg Badaruddin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awg Othman.

Twenty heads of families were present during the event to accept the donations.

According to a press statement by MUIB, each head of family was given $500 while each of their dependants received $400.

The statement added that the donations were aimed to help lessen the financial burden of the underprivileged families.

The tadarus ceremony was held as part of the ministry’s religious activities to celebrate the blessed month of Ramadhan as well as acting as a platform to strengthen the bond between the ministry and the community.

The event began with a mass recitation of _Surah Al-Fatihah _led by the religious affairs minister, followed by a reading of the _Tafsir Al-Quran _by invited speaker Hilman Haji Salim, a graduate from Al-Azhar University in Kaherah.

Following this, a mass recital of _tahlil _and _Doa Arwah _was held.

Around 200 individuals participated in the event consisting of senior officials and staff of the ministry, the mosque committee of the Kg Danau Mosque as well as the Mukim and Village Consultative Councils of Kg Danau.

Also present were Deputy Minister Haji Abdul Mokti Haji Mohd Daud and Permanent Secretary Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Aziz Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Hj Md Yusof.
