FEMALE members of the Brunei Malay Teachers Association (PGGMB) held a Tadarus ceremony yesterday together with the Council of Women of Brunei Darussalam (CWBD).

A total of 80 women participated in reading the Quran at the residence of PGGMB’s Women’s Division Director, Pg Hjh Rakiah Pg Hj Abu Bakar, in Kampung Sg Tilong.

In an interview with Pg Hjh Rakiah on the sidelines of the event, she said the annual Tadarus Al-Quran activity was held in the hope that members of the association can reap the boundless benefits and rewards of the noble month.

She said recitation of the Quran can also help improve members’ reading skills, enhance the sense of unity and foster closer relations among members.

Thirteen women’s associations and organisations attended the ceremony.

The ceremony began with a mass recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Pg Datin Paduka Hjh Mariam Pg Hj Matarsat, the former deputy president of PGGMB, who is also the vice president of CWBD.

It was followed by the recitation of the juzuk (section) five of the Quran, as well as Surah Yasin and the Doa Tahlil by council members.

According to Pg Hjh Rakiah, the association will continue to conduct the Tadarus throughout the blessed month, which will take place at members’ residences.

The next Tadarus ceremony will be hosted by the Brunei Government Senior Officers Wives Welfare Association (BISTARI) on June 18 at BISTARI President Pg Datin Hjh Mariam Pg Hj Ahmad’s residence.

PGGMB will also be holding a donation ceremony for orphans of members who have passed away sometime this month, said a statement from PGGMB’s Women’s Division.

The event will see the handover of welfare donations to the selected members of PGMMB as their annual activity in the fasting month. Among those present yesterday was Datin Hjh Masni Hj Mohd Ali, Vice President I of CWBD.
