Furniture store room in Sengkurong up in flames

A FIRE broke out at Bangunan Hj Mohd Yassin Bin Hj Adam at Kg Sengkurong ‘A’ yesterday morning.

The Fire and Rescue Department received a call at 9.15am and deployed four fire engines from the Jerudong and Pengkalan Batu fire stations with additional help from personnel of the Beribi, Berakas and Rimba fire stations.

According to the department’s statement, upon arrival, a huge fire was seen on the second floor of the building used to store furniture (Sengkurong Furniture).

The fire was brought under control at 9.30am, read the statement.

The cause of the fire was believed to have come from a loose connection in the prepaid meter connected with the distribution board. An eyewitness who preferred anonymity said he was initially unaware of the fire until smoke came out from the building and called the Fire and Rescue Department’s emergency hotline at 995.

When The Brunei Times arrived at the scene, several Fire and Rescue personnel have already managed to put the fire out at the front and back side of the building. The operation was handled by a total of 33 personnel and led by Senior Superintendent of Fire and Rescue, Hj Janaidi Gunong. The Fire and Rescue Department have yet to finalise calculations on the total losses.
