UNIVERSITI Teknologi Brunei (UTB) will be hosting the second Professional Communication, Business, Engineering and Technology (PCBET) International Conference 2017 in conjunction with UTB’s 30th anniversary.

Themed ‘Towards a Communicative Learning Environment’, the conference is scheduled to take place from May 9 to May 10 next year.

“Communication is the heartbeat of any organisation and effective communication helps boost productivity of an organisation,” said UTB on its website.

“The need for effective communication to meet global demands is ever increasing,” it said.

The conference has been organised to help educators, trainers and industry experts to keep abreast of current trends and innovations in the teaching and learning of PCBET, UTB said.

UTB, on its website, invited academics, industry members and service providers to submit abstracts for research papers to be presented at the conference by October 31 this year.

Among the topics they can submit their papers on include teaching and learning, communication for the workplace, emerging trends and future directions in professional communication, learner autonomy, e-learning or blended learning, curriculum development and workplace diversity.

All accepted papers will be published in the Brunei Darussalam Journal of Technology and Commerce (BDJTC), said Universiti Teknologi Brunei.

UTB also called for submissions for a ‘Postgraduate Forum’ which will be held as part of the PCBET 2017 conference.

The forum will present a valuable opportunity for PhD students to showcase their work to a broad audience in the fields of communication, teaching and learning and education, and help students to establish contacts and communication within academia and industry.

According to UTB, the keynote speaker for the conference will be City University of Hong Kong’s Professor Dr John Flowerdew, whose research and teaching focus is in the field of applied linguistics, while BAG Networks Chief Executive Officer Haslina Taib will be a plenary speaker.
