THE Council on Social Welfare (MKM) yesterday distributed aid to six needy families in Kg Menunggol.

Twelve members of the association visited the village and presented the aid to the families who had been identified by its village head as in need of assistance.

They distributed financial aid, basic daily necessities and other items such as a wheelchair, a portable toilet and a single bed.

The Vice President II of MKM, Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Perkasa Colonel (Rtd) Dato Paduka Hj Mahdini Dato Paduka Hj Basir, said the donation project for Kg Menunggol is a continuation of a previous project where they had also donated a wheelchair to a needy recipient.

The Village Head, Yusup Muhammad, expressed his gratitude on behalf of the recipients for the aid.

“These families were chosen on the basis of their earnings and academic background, and some of them have difficulty in finding assistance. Some of them are even unemployed, as they are unable to find work due to their predicaments such as being differently abled,” said Yusup.

While the community is close-knit and the recipients have family close by, Yusup said it is usually not enough to help them live comfortably.

“There are some who can afford daily necessities, but only barely,” he added.

The recipient of the single bed and portable toilet said he was relieved to receive the aid from the MKM.

“My heart is at ease knowing that they care. I slipped in the toilet over a year ago, and it was found that I suffered a stroke. I can’t do the things I was once able to do,” said 36-year-old Hj Rahman Hj Ibrahim.
