THE Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has never asked for donations to implement its programmes and activities, said the bureau’s acting director yesterday.

The bureau issued a statement reponding to rumours about people claiming to be NCB officials going around asking for public donation.

Hj Mohd Jaffari Hj Mahadi said that the NCB has been made aware of the activity of “irresponsible individuals” posing as endorsed officers from the bureau soliciting donations from the public while using its ‘No Drugs at All’ (NDA) slogan.

The imposters would explain that the supposed donations were used to fund anti-drug campaign activities. With regards to the matter, NCB said that it has never given permission or instructions to ask the public for donations on its behalf in implementing its anti-drug campaign activities.

The director in the statement said the NCB does not take such incidents lightly and warned perpetrators that such acts are punishable for up to seven years’ imprisonment under the Penal Code, Chapter 22.

NCB said that the public are encouraged to share any information of similar incidents or any other drug-related activities to the bureau’s hotline 2448877 during office hours and to 8777444 after office hours. – Darren Chin
