DANA receives over $110,000 from SMS donations

THE Pengiran Muda Mahkota Al-Muhtadee Billah Fund for Orphans (DANA) yesterday received a $110,601 donation following the DANA ‘Brunei Cares’ SMS Campaign for Orphans for 2015-2016.

The campaign, which ran from November 25, 2015 to January 31, 2016, saw members of the public donating to the fund through a SMS service provided by telecommunications companies DST and Progresif Cellular.

Presenting the donations on behalf of DST was Member of the DST Board of Directors Abdul Latiff Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Yusof while Progresif Cellular was represented by Normah Ahmad.

Chairman of the Board of Trustees of DANA cum Minister of Education Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Hj Suyoi Hj Osman received the donations on behalf of DANA.

During the ceremony which took place at the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (YSHHB) Complex yesterday, DANA was also presented with a separate donation of $36,376.30, which came from DST ($20,000), Progresif Cellular ($3,863.99), Universiti Teknologi Brunei ($9,650), the Ministry of Education’s Special Education Unit ($862.31) and Samima Sdn Bhd ($2,000).

Present to hand over the donations on behalf of the UTB were Head of the UTB Student Council Executive Committee for Economy and Entrepreneurship Pg Anak Muhammad Abdul Qayyum Pg Sura Negara Pg Anak Hj Muhammad Bey Muntassir.

Meanwhile, the MoE Special Education Unit was represented by its acting deputy head Hjh Noriah Hj Ibrahim, and Samima Sdn Bhd was represented by its director Haji Hidayutullah.

As part of the ceremony, 13 students also received the Excellent Student Incentive Award DANA 2016 (AIPC-DANA 2016).

The students all received certificates, laptops and printers, as well as various cash incentives, for achieving excellent results in either the GCE O-level examinations, Primary School Assessment (PSR) examinations or the Primary Six Religious School Certificate (SSSRU) examinations in 2015.

YB Pehin Dato Hj Suyoi also presented the awards to the students. Also present yesterday was DANA Chief Executive Officer Hj Brahim Hj Ismail.
