MoHA minister joins Al-Quran recital in Temburong

THE Minister of Home Affairs (MoHA) yesterday visited Masjid Rancangan Perumahan Negara Kampung Rataie in Temburong to join the 70 times Khatam Al-Quran reading participated by 280 residents there.

In a statement issued by the ministry, it said that the Khatam Al-Quran reading is being held to commemorate the 70th birthday of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.

In attendance with Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Hj Awg Abu Bakar Hj Apong were Legislative Council member from Temburong Hj Sulaiman Hj Ahad, Permanent Secretary of Home Affairs Hj Mohd ‘Abdoh Dato Seri Setia Hj Abu Salam and other senior officials from the ministry.

The guest of honour began the ceremony with the recital of _Surah_Al-Fatihah and continued with a mass reading of the verses of Al-Quran. The event ended with the reading of the Doa Selamat.

The event was held to support the vision of His Majesty for Brunei Darussalam to be a Zikir Nation and is a manifestation of appreciation towards the country’s national philosophy, the Malay Muslim Monarchy (MIB).

It also aimed to nurture the culture of reading and appreciating Al-Quran and to practice its teachings in everyday life.

For this year’s celebration, a total of 1,670 people comprising members of Mukim and Village Consultative Councils from all four districts, as well as youths and students from primary and secondary religious schools, will be taking part in the religious event.

The participants from Temburong will continue their Quran reading at the Masjid Utama Mohammad Salleh during the fasting month of Ramadhan. –Khai Zem Mat Sani
