TWENTY participants competed in the finals of the National Musabaqah Al-Quran Memorisation and Interpretation Competition yesterday at the International Convention Centre in Berakas.

The contestants, comprising students from various schools across the country, competed in categories ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’ and ‘E’ which each had specific criteria to fulfil such as different juzuk and verses of the Quran to memorise and interpret.

Present as the guest of honour in the morning session was Muhammad Sunadi Hj Buntar, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The afternoon session was attended by the Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Hj Harun Hj Junid.

The five participants of category ‘A’ will be competing today, while a token of appreciation ceremony will also be held for the participants and judges. The participants were chosen during the semifinals from a total of 57 participants.

The competition is held to encourage Muslims – specifically the younger generation – to love, read and memorise the Quran as well as understand the meaning of the verses. It is also held to produce more Quran readers as well as to seek blessings and rewards from Allah SWT.

The winners for each category will be announced at a ceremony during the Nuzul Al-Quran celebration this month.
