YAYASAN Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (YSHHB) donated over $40,000 yesterday to mosques and prayer halls across the sultanate for the upcoming month of Ramadhan.

About $42,900 was donated to 46 mosques and prayer halls to help conduct religious ceremonies during the fasting month.

Speaking to reporters, the recipients donation expressed their gratitude to YSHHB for the donation to enliven their mosques and prayer halls during the blessed month.

Hjh Rohaidah Anizah Mohd Kamsani, secretary of the Tutong Converts Association (PESATU), said the non-governmental organisation will use the donations for their tarawih prayers and tadarus (mass reading of Al-Quran).

“This donation will be of immense help as these are the activities we conduct every year at our headquarters on Jalan Lubok Pulau,” she added.

She said the donation will also help the association spread the teachings of Islam to families of the association’s members.

For Muhd Shahrin Muhd Halim, the acting Imam of Kg Melilas, the donations are significant in keeping their prayer hall alive during the fasting month.

“During the fasting month, the congregants in our prayer hall often fluctuate because family members who live outside the village will visit during Ramadhan.

“We will use the donations to help prepare for the expected rise in the number of congregants, especially in terms of buying fuel for our prayer hall’s generator,” he said.
