Japan honours 3 decades of service by a Bruneian staff

A FORMER staff of the Japanese Embassy in Brunei for three decades recently received the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold and Silver Rays from the government of Japan.

According to a statement by the embassy, former assistant to the embassy Pg Sukinah Pg Dato Paduka Hj Hidup received the decoration at Japanese Ambassador Noriko Iki’s residence on Saturday in a conferment ceremony.

The Japanese government announced the recipients of the 2016 Spring Decorations on April 29.

“She received the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold and Silver Rays, in recognition of her 30 years of dedicated service at the embassy of Japan to promote the bilateral relationships between Brunei Darussalam and Japan, as well as to become a role model to the local staff of the embassy,”’ the statement said.

Pg Sukinah started her work as an assistant to the Education, Culture and Information Division just a year after the embassy opened in Brunei in 1984.

Pg Sukinah also received a congratulatory message from Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan Fumio Kishida.
