Good turnout for 8th Bukit Markucing challenge run

SOME 247 people took part in the 8th Bukit Markucing Challenge Run yesterday at Taman Riadah Tasik Sarubing in Kg Belimbing.

“The aim of the run is to encourage the community and the public to be physically active and to train their stamina both mentally and physically to build a healthier lifestyle,” said Village Head of Kg Belimbing and State Legislative Council Member Yang Berhormat Hj Gapor @ Hj Mohd Daud Karim during his opening remarks.

He said the event seeks to introduce and promote Taman Riadah Tasik Sarubing as an eco-tourism destination as well as a “hiking village” under the One Village, One Product initiative for sports and recreational activities.

He added that the run seeks to strengthen the relationship between spectators, participants and the Village Consultative Council (MPK) members for further cooperation in future activities.

Participants of the run were divided into 10 categories and two courses – a 5.7km run and a 3.5km run.

Kicking off the event at 7.15am was Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism Dr Hj Abdul Manaf Hj Metussin.
