THE Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) is set to showcase its military might to the public at its 55th anniversary celebration on May 31.
Lieutenant Colonel Muhd Wata Abdullah Awat, deputy chairman I of the anniversary celebration, said the two-day event will take place at the new Defence Academy in Tanah Jambu for the first time in a bid to highlight the latest progress and developments within the armed forces.
During the event, he said the public will be given the opportunity to learn about careers and training in the RBAF.
Uniformed personnel from the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and the Mindanao-based International Monitoring Team will also be present to share their experience of serving in peacekeeping operations abroad.
The celebration will kick off at 8.30am on Tuesday with a grand parade involving 1,155 soldiers followed by a fly past performed by helicopters of the Royal Brunei Air Force.
“Other side events open to the public on the day will be the arena show, static displays and bazaar activities as well as stalls, including food and drinks booths,” said Lieutenant Colonel Muhd Wata, adding there will be games such as remote control cars, airboat rides and .22 shooting.
He advised visitors interested in watching the grand parade on May 31 to come as early as 7.30am, while the side events will start from 9am and end at 5pm.
On June 1, the arena show will be held from 9am to 9.30am and from 2pm to 2.30pm. However, the static displays as well as the bazaar and funfair will take place between 9am to 3pm. There will be no grand parade conducted on Wednesday.
Shuttle buses will be provided with drop-off and pick-up points located at the Lambak Kanan Industrial Area and Salambigar Industrial Park, where the public can park their vehicles.
The shuttle buses will take visitors to and from the Defence Academy at regular intervals throughout the two-day event. Lieutenant Colonel Muhd Wata said uniformed personnel will guard the parking areas to ensure the safety of vehicles.
