A SIXTY-THREE-YEAR-OLD man was further remanded yesterday pending investigation into the charge of a kidnapping a 10-year-old girl.

During the proceedings at the Magistrates’ Court yesterday, the accused Brahim Hj Kassim told the court that he was not satisfied with the kidnapping allegation as it was Miss X who had actually wanted to follow him. He further sought to be released on bail as the investigation process took too long.

Brahim is facing a charge of kidnapping the victim, Miss X, from her school in Belait in the early morning between 6am and 7am on May 14 this year. The charge carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years and an unspecified amount in fines.

Deputy public prosecutor Hjh Rozaimah Hj Abd Rahman, however, disputes the claim and told the court that Brahim was arrested on Tuesday, May 24 and during the 48-hours, investigation on the defendant has been carried out which includes taking the defendant’s urine samples at the hospital and statement taking on the current charge.

The prosecution further sought for the defendant to be further remanded for two weeks to assist police in statement taking as Brahim is also suspected of offences of sexual nature on the victim.

The presiding magistrate, Hjh Ervy Sufitriana Hj Abd Rahman, granted the prosecution’s application as the defendant is facing a serious charge and it is necessary that further investigation should be conducted.

He was ordered to be remanded at the Central Police Station in the capital until June 4.
